2007-9-11

Thomas C. Schelling,1921-
American economist
Professor of Maryland University, won the Nobel Prize in economics together with Robert J. Aumann because their study on game theory is helpful to improve the understanding of conflict and cooperation in 2005.

The theory and thought of Schelling not only promotes the development of game theory, but also accelerates its application in the whole social field, and thus makes it the classic theory of social science, so that he is regarded as the forerunner in the field of non-mathematical game theory. He also uses the game theory to analyze the cold war between the west and east after the 2nd World War and explains the damage of preemptive nuclear strike. A series of thoughts of Schelling in game theory all have much important reference significance for the human being's reasonable utilization of resource and the harmonious coexistence between human being and environment. Schelling had ever acted as the committeeman of carbon dioxide evaluation committee US National Academy of Sciences and the initiator of research project "the influence of climate change on war and environment" from 1981 to 1983.
