Richard R. Schrock,1945-
A scientist of USA
Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

In 2005, he, along with Yves Chauvin and Robert H. Grubbs, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for outstanding contributions in study of olefin metathesis reaction.

The research result in olefin metathesis reaction realizes an important breakthrough in the scientific research itself and promotes the development of organic chemistry and macromolecular chemistry. What's more important, it has made a big stride towards "green chemistry". The research result contributes to saving atoms and friendly environments of chemical reactions and deals with hazardous impurities and residuals generated in chemical reactions. This prevents chemical achievements from producing side-effects hard to overcome technically while they bring about tremendous benefits to the mankind. "Olefin metathesis reaction" achieves the highly harmonious unification of sciences and environments and constitutes a successful example for the mankind to call for "green chemistry".
