Walter Kohn,1923-
A physical scientist and theoretic chemist of USA

In 1998, he, along with John A. Pople, was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for development of the electron density functional theory and the quantum chemistry calculation method.

Kohn creates a simple calculation method of molecular properties - density functional theory. This makes it possible to simulate chemical substances in the computer to substitute chemical experiments, and promotes the chemistry to generate a revolutionary change in close combination of theories with experiments. This theoretical method can also be applied in various aspects including pharmacy and environmental protection. Furthermore, Kohn also focuses on human's peace utilization of nuclear energy, and propagandizes the right application of nuclear energy to protect human environments.

Currently, Kohn has joined the Basic Energy Science Advisory Committee of American Government. He is fabricating a newsreel about solar energy-Strength of the Sun, which will widely advocate the utilization of solar energy in the world.
