Carlo Rubbia,1934- Italian scientist Professor at University of Pavia, and chairman of ENEA, won the Nobel Prize in physics together with Simon Van Der Meer for the discovery of the decisive effect of weakly interacting particle W¡À and Z0 in 1984.
The discovery of W¡À and Z0 particle validates the unified electro-weak theory and has important significance for the unveiling of the essence of weak force. The proton- antiproton collider manufactured by them and the large electron positron collider manufactured later are the most basic equipment for the high energy physical research. Their study provides reliable and practical approach for the mankind to acquire the energy from high energy physics and is helpful for the people to further unveil the riddle of antimatter.
The scientists suppose there may be a kind of matter composed of antiparticles in some part of cosmic, which is called antimatter. The antimatter will be annihilated when encountering with the matter; and their mass will be transferred into energy completely. According to this theory, the energy from the annihilation of an aspirin-sized antimatter and matter is adequate to make an airship fly for 100 light years, and the fuel in the huge fuel box and propeller can be substituted by 100mg antimatter; therefore it is the object for the research of scientists to manufacture the antimatter engine with great energy and light mass.
