Solid waste refers to solid state or semi-solid state waste matters produced from human production, consumption, living and other human activities. Some countries also define acid waste, alkali waste and organic solvent waste and other high-density liquid as solid wastes.

Statue in quo: With increasing development and use of natural resources, increase of population and consumption per capita, garbage volume worldwide are increasing with a speed 2-3 times higher than their economic growth.
(Picture 2: World Garbage Produce Status and Forecast (1990), see the table below)

Reasons:
1.A large volume of urban domestic garbage will be produced from urban daily life or activities providing services to urban daily life. 2.A large volume of industrial slag and garbage will be produced from industrial and traffic production activities. 3.Livestock waste and crop stalk will produce agricultural wastes.

Impacts: Storage of large volume of solid waste will possibly cause pollution to the atmosphere, water body and soil in addition to occupancy of large area of land.

Countermeasures:
Control solid waste produce; Carry out comprehensive utilization and re-use solid wastes as a kind of secondary resource; Make the non recycled solid waste to final solid waste through compaction and poison-free treatment before backfill and sea sinking.
