Introduction

Founded in 1996, as one of the first NGOs in China, Global Village of Beijing dedicated to environmental education and civil society strengthening. In recent years, GVB was awarded one of the Best NGOs and one of the Top 10 Think Tanks in China. We work hard to promote programs in the environmental protection, such as Promote Green Life Space, Foster the Green Communities and Promote Green Media. GVB, collaborated with the Ministry of Construction and some other Environmental NGOs, launched activities as'the 26 Degree Campaign (energy saving by air-conditioner)','Public Action for Saving 20% Energy','Car Free day'and so on. GVB make great contribution to environmental protection in China.

Ms.Liao Xiaoyi,the founder of Global Village of Beijing, won Sophie Prize 2000 on behalf of Environmental Culture Center of Global Village of Beijing, won Australian '°à¿ËÎ÷Ñǹú¼Ê½±'in 2001 and elected as one of'Top Ten Chinese Women 2001'. In 2005, she was elected as public welfare great contributor by CCTV. In 2006, she was awarded with'Great Contributor in Green China Year'.

Activities

1.From July 2004 to the end of 2005,GVB and six Environmental NGOs launched the 26 Degree Campaign(energy saving by air-conditioner)together.

2.Together with some Civil society organizations, GVB initiated'Car Free day'from 2005. From 2007.9.16 to 2007.9.22 ,collaborated with the Ministry of Construction , we are going to launch a 'Nationwide Urban Public Transportation Week & Car-free Day'(2007.9.16-22),which will involve 107 cities around China from 16 to 22 ,September, 2007.

To advocate a brand new kind of lifestyle and way of consumption that will reduce the energy consumption, the'Public Action for Saving 20% Energy'program was launched by Global Village of Beijing and other 40 environmental NGOs , which is going to be followed up with many relevant activities and be run in the long-term.

1.promote green life space-establishing garbage sorting system in local communities, building up plastic bags reduction network and chemical pollution control team.

GVB is the member of International POPs Elimination Network (IPEN), and will function a hub of IPEN .

2.Foster the Green Communities-The development of Green Livelihood must be grassroots-based in the context of a community. From 1999, the'Green Community model'which was initiated by GVB has got approval from the government and been spread out all over China.

With the help from GVB, Chunshuyuan Community built up their own Environmental Council

In February 2001, International Olympic Commission Assessment Delegation visited Chunshuyuan Community built by GVB.

3.Participate in Green Olympics-as a consultant of the Olympic Organizing Committee of Beijing, Liao Xiaoyi engaged in Beijing's bid. And GVB was qualified to match green Olympics to start several activities.

4.Promote green media-From 1996 to 2001, GVB produced three hundred shows for its weekly television program 'Time for the Environment', as well as the TV documentary series 'Global Environmental View '. Today we have established a platform which involves almost over 200 journalists all around China from mainstream Medias through many kinds of activities such as journalists'forum, journalists'tea house.
