The invention of cardiac catheterization --- the key to the cardiac medication

In recognition of their contribution to heart catheterization and physiological research on circulation system, the German therapist, W.Forssmann (1904-1979), and two American physicians, D.W.Richards (1895กซ1973) and A.F.Cournand (1895-1988), won the Noble Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1956.

Since its invention, heart catheterization has been widely applied to the research and clinical practices of cardiopathy. Providing a new method of the diagnosis and therapy for cardiopathy, it has opened up a new era for the research and therapy of cardiovascular diseases.
