2007-9-21
The Spanish neurohistologist, S.R.y Cajal (1852----l934), established neuron theory, in which he viewed nerve cells (neuron) as the basic structure and functional unit of nervous system and brain, and denied recticular theory of nervous system. His neuron theory helps to show the correct direction of the study on nervous system. In recognition of this contribution, he, together with the Italian neurohistologist, C.Golgi (1843----1926), were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1906. The establishment of the theory of neuron doctrine uncovers the prelude of modern neuron science and science of brain.
