Ig Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Inventor of Ultrasonic Youth Deterrent

Chinanews.com, October 6th: the annual Ig Nobels were announced recently, and the inventor of ultrasonic youth deterrent won the peace prize. BBC reported that the Ig Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a Welsh, Howard Sterplyton who invented a type of youth deterrent producing high frequency noise which can be heard only by youth but not by adult. Other awards went to the research on hiccough treatment by rectum finger-massage which was jointly performed by USA and Israel, and the report on why woodpeckers have no headaches. It is reported that all awarded researches have been published on famous academic magazine. And It is known that the Ig Nobels have no cash award for winners, which is totally different from other academic awards. In this year, the eight of ten winners went to Massachusetts State, USA to receive awards at their own expenses. The sponsor of Ig Nobels, Editor of Science Humour Magzine, Mark Abraham said, ¡¯The Ig Nobels are awarded to those peculiar and imaginative researches focusing on science, medicine and technologies which attract interests of common people. All Ig Nobel Prizes of this year are as follows: Mathematics Prize: More pictures are taken to make sure no one closes his or her eyes at the time of crowd photographing. Ornithology: Why woodpeckers have no headaches. Alimentology: Why dung beetles eat all the time. Acoustics: Why the noise produced by fingernail scratching blackboard is disgusting.
