Personal information
Robert H. Grubbs(Feb. 27,1942-),an American chemist, was a winner of Nobel Prize. He was born in Calvert City,Kentucky, near Possum Trot in 1942 and studied Chemistry at the University of Florida, where he obtained bachelor's degree and master's degree, and then at Columbia University, New York, where he gained his doctor's degree under Ronald Breslow in 1968.
In the first year after graduation, Grubbs cooperated with James Collman at Stanford University and then became a teacher of University of Michigan. In 1978, he joined in California Institute of Technology and currently he is the Victor and Elizabeth Atkins professor of chemistry.
At 23 he got bachelor's degree from Department of Chemistry,University of Florida, and after three years later, gained his doctor's degree from Columbia University. From 1969 to 1978 he was an assistant professor and associate professor of Michigan State University and then has been a professor of Department of Chemistry, California Institute of Technology from 1978 till now.

Achievements on theories
After obtained his bachelor's degree, Robert H. Grubbs has published many papers on famous magazines newspapers and magazines such as PNAS and ACS etc. Presently the catalyst for Olefin metathesis reaction developed by him is most widely used.
In 2005 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to French chemist Yves Chauvin, American chemist Robert H. Grubbs and Richard R. Schrock for their great contribution to the field of the research of Olefin metathesis reaction.
In 1990 in the report of Richard R. Schrock and his partners it was said that carbine compound of molybdenum could be used as an efficacious catalyst for Olefin metathesis reaction, which was the first applicable catalyst in this field. The achievement proved that Olefin metathesis reaction could replace many traditional organic synthesis methods and be used to get new organic molecules.
In 1992 Grubbs and his partners found carbine compound of ruthenium also could be used as catalyst. Then with Grubbs's further efforts, Grubbs'Catalyst became the first catalyst commonly used for Olefin metathesis reaction and the referred object when verifying new catalyst's performance.
Based upon these discoveries researching Olefin metathesis reaction and designing new organic material began to absorb more and more people in academic and industrial circles.
